NOBODY BELIVES A LIAR

 

Ayon loved being the center of attention. To keep his friends entertained and ensure all eyes were always on him, he started making up wild, exaggerated stories. At first, everyone believed him. But over time, the patterns became obvious, and his friends realized that Ayon’s words could never be fully trusted.

One day, Ayon ran up to his group and gasped, "You guys won't believe it! Last night, a leopard escaped from the zoo and was roaming right near our neighborhood alley! I saw it through my window!"

His friends just laughed and shook their heads. "Sure, Ayon. A leopard? Are you sure it wasn't an elephant?"

Ayon felt a bit deflated that his story didn't get the reaction he wanted, but he couldn't shake his habit. He genuinely believed that a few harmless lies didn't hurt anyone.

The Real Crisis

A few weeks later, Ayon was home alone at night, rushing to finish a college assignment. Suddenly, he heard a sharp sparking sound. He looked up and saw thick black smoke pouring out of the wall outlet where his laptop charger was plugged in. Before he could react, a small electrical pop sent sparks flying straight into the heavy window curtains nearby.

Within seconds, the curtains caught fire.

Panic hit Ayon instantly. He tried to throw a blanket over it, but the flames were spreading too fast, creeping up toward the ceiling. Coughing from the smoke, he grabbed his phone and made a frantic video call to his friends' group chat.

"Guys, help me! My room is on fire! I’m serious, the curtains are burning and the smoke is getting too thick, I can't breathe!" Ayon screamed into the camera, though the video connection was blurry and dark.

On the other end, his friend Rafsan just chuckled. "Oh, come on, Ayon! What kind of prank is this? Fire? Let me guess, next you're going to tell us a dragon flew in and breathed fire on your homework? Nice try, man."

"No, I swear to God! I’m not lying! Please, someone call the fire department!" Ayon’s voice cracked with genuine terror.

But the rest of the group joined in on the laughter. "Bro, your acting has gotten way better, give him an Oscar already. Go to sleep, Ayon." And with that, they hung up the call.

The Cost of a Lie

Staring at his phone, Ayon felt a cold wave of realization wash over him. His past caught up to him in the worst possible moment. He had built such a solid reputation as a liar that when he was telling the absolute, terrifying truth, nobody believed him.

Realizing he was completely on his own, he didn't waste another second trying to convince his friends. He dialed the emergency services directly. Fortunately, the fire department arrived just in time to contain the blaze. While Ayon escaped physically unhurt, a major section of his room was entirely charred and ruined.

The next morning, his friends saw the news updates and the photos of Ayon’s burnt house on social media. Shocked and filled with guilt, they rushed over to his place.

Rafsan stepped forward, looking down. "Man... we are so incredibly sorry. We just thought... we thought it was another one of your pranks."

Ayon gave a faint, tired smile and shook his head. "Don't apologize. It's not your fault, it's mine. I damaged my own credibility so badly that when I needed you guys to believe me the most, my truth just sounded like another one of my stories."

The Moral: Trust is like a mirror; once it's broken, you can still see the reflection, but you can see the cracks too. When someone becomes known for dishonesty, even their deepest truths are treated as lies.
