The Golden Touch
King Midas was a wealthy ruler who had a peculiar obsession: he loved gold more than anything else in the world. He spent his days counting his coins and constantly wishing for more. One day, a divine being appeared before him and offered to grant him one wish as a reward for his hospitality. Without a moment's hesitation, Midas asked for the power to turn everything he touched into solid gold. The being warned him of the potential dangers, but Midas was blinded by greed and insisted on his wish.
The next morning, Midas woke up and excitedly reached for his bedclothes. To his delight, they turned into shimmering, priceless gold. He ran through his palace, touching furniture, statues, and vases; everything transformed into heavy, solid gold. He felt like the most powerful and blessed man in the world.
However, his joy was short-lived. When he sat down for breakfast, he reached for a piece of bread, but it turned into hard gold in his hand. He tried to sip some water, but it instantly became molten gold. Panic began to set in. To make matters worse, his beloved daughter ran into the room, crying about something, and rushed to hug her father. As soon as Midas touched her, she turned into a cold, motionless golden statue.
Horrified and devastated, Midas realized that his greed had cost him the only things that truly mattered. He wept bitterly and begged the divine being to take back the cursed gift. The being told him to wash his hands in the nearby river. Midas did so, and the magic washed away. When he returned home, he found his daughter restored to life. Midas finally understood that happiness cannot be found in gold, and he spent the rest of his life valuing love, family, and simple joys above all else.
