Seventeen-year-old Ayan was a typical caরিefree college student. As the eldest son of a middle-class family, his life revolved around his guitar, friends, and social media. His father, Anisur Rahman, managed the entire household with his modest salary and often advised, "Ayan, learn to take responsibility. One day, you’ll have to steer this ship." Ayan always brushed it off.

Then, tragedy struck. His father suffered a major heart attack. Though he survived, the doctor ordered complete bed rest for a year.

Standing in the hospital corridor, Ayan felt the ground slip away. The family savings were wiped out. With rent due, grocery bills piling up, and his sister’s school fees pending, the carefree boy vanished overnight. He quietly packed away his guitar and silenced his phone.

The next morning, Ayan took charge. He began hunting for home tuitions. His routine became grueling: attending college, rushing to teach three different students until late evening, and studying for his own exams past midnight.

His responsibility wasn't just financial. He managed his father’s medicine schedules, bargained at the local market, and helped his sister with her studies. When his mother fell ill from exhaustion, Ayan cooked for the family without hesitation. He turned down hangouts, realizing his family needed an anchor, not a wanderer.

Six months later, Anisur Rahman was finally able to walk a little. One afternoon, he saw Ayan teaching his sister while meticulously tracking the monthly expenses in a diary.

Placing a hand on his son’s shoulder, tears welled up in his eyes. "I am so proud of you, my son," he whispered.

Ayan smiled and replied, "You always said being the eldest son means being the roof of the house, Dad. I just learned how to hold it up."
